Another Curling Season is underway and Team Macaulay will be playing their first event this weekend in the Derek Whitehill Memorial Cashspiel hosted by the Peterborough Curling Club. We had a great time at this event last year advancing to the quarterfinals. Our team is back intact from last season and we hoping to improve upon last seasons results. There are some changes this year as Erin and Christina have moved to St. Catherines to attend Brock University and Robyn has moved to Hamilton to attend McMaster. Linda is back as coach and the team and parents are all looking forward to spending time getting to know her daughter. We will try and keep everyone posted of the weekends happenings.

Capital One Junior Draw to the Button

Team Macaulay has a new hero today. Some great curling at the BDO Canadian Open in Oshawa, but the really cool part was Skip Erin Macaulay's younger sister throwing one rock for a $1000 and she pulled it off in great style. Watch the video here.

Toronto Curling Association (TCA) Bonspiel Update

We had a great run at TCA's over the holidays, making it to the 2nd event final, where we played Team Van Huyse. Over the course of the 3 days we played some of the best Junior Ladies Teams in the province and proved we can play with the top teams. After TCA's we are now ranked #12 on the OJCT tour and hope to get an invite to the Tour Championship in 3 weeks. Hope everyone had a great holiday and good curling.

Regional Update B Semi Final

We had a great game against Team Hogan, both teams made some great shots and playing the 10th end the score was tied at 6, we got our chances to steal but the last rock wrecked on a gaurd and we shook. Team Hogan went on to win the B final and advances to Provincials. Good luck Stacey, Suzanne, Emilie and Michelle and also Team Van Huyse who one the A side final.

Next up for us is TCA's between Christmas and New Years,

Regional Update Games 2 and 3

Game 2 didn't go so well, had our chances but lost in an extra End.

Game 3 we played Lana Shapton from Peterborough, had a great bounce back game and came away with a win to keep us alive on the B side.

Regional Update Game 1

It was an early morning start for us today with our first game against Erin Walker beginning at 8:30 this morning. We lost the toss and picked Red rocks. Nice clean first end with both teams keeping things clean. Walker scored 1 in the first and end 2 was similar, Erin had a hit a stick for 2 but her shooter rolled out and the scored tied at one. We stole 2 in the third and held them to one in four. The fifth end we got lots of rocks in play. Hit and stick with last scored 4 and gave us a solid 8 to 2. We kept things open after but they made a few really nice shots to score 2. They got aggressive in 8 but we got some rocks in early and scored 3 and they shook. Next up at 1PM is Team Murphy.

OCA Playdowns - Zones

Today was the start of the OCA playdowns, we are curling out of zone 6 representing the Whitby Curling Club. There were only 2 teams entered in our zone to be played at the Sutton Curling Club, and the other good thing our game was scheduled for a 1:30 start. We were matched up against Stacey Hogan and her team representing Tam Heather in Scarborough, we got off to a good start scoring in the first and then stealing one and two in the next 2 ends. We continued our solid play throughout the game for the win.

Next up is Regionals on Dec 4-5 at the Oakville Curling Club, the top two teams from Regionals advance to the Ontario Provincial Championship in Sarnia.

London Junior Cash Spiel - Final Update

Last night we ran into a determined Lindsay team, we got off to a slow start and ended up shaking after 6 ends. The lost placed us 3rd in our pool and matched us up with 3rd place from the B pool.

Sunday morning saw us facing Team Johnson, who we had recently played in Brampton, we got us to a good start scoring 2 in the first end. Johnson pulled even with a deuce in the 2nd. We scored 1 in the 3rd, however we gave up a big 3 to trail 5-3 after 4, we were hitting for 2 in the 5th but our shooter just rolled out to make the score 5-4 after 5. We held them to 1 in 6 and tried to blank 7 but our shooter stayed to make the score 6-5. Our last rock in 8 over curled and we gave up 2 fall behind 8-5, forgot to mention the playoffs are 10 end games. We scored 2 in 9 and stole 1 in ten to force another extra end, our 4th in 6 games. Came up a bit light with our last draw and congratulated Team Johnson on their victory.

London Junior Cash Spiel - Games 3 and 4 Update

Well this morning we played Team Duffy and again went to an extra end, however this time we came out on the wrong side of the score. Next up was Team McNiven this game started out badly for us giving up three in the first end, but we battled back scoring 2 in the 2nd, stole 3 in the 3rd and stole another 2 in the 4th. We shook after 6 ends with a 10-4 victory putting our record at 3 wins vs 1 loss.

This evening we will be playing Team Lindsay, the same team we played in the quarter finals of the Brampton Spiel 2 weeks ago. We know this will be a tough game, but a victory for us could move us on to the Main event Semi-finals, game time is scheduled for 8:45PM tonight, so look for an update later tonight or early tomorrow.

The team is off to catch up on some homework before the next game,

Brampton Update

This past weekend we curled in the Brampton Junior Cash Spiel. Our first game Friday afternoon was against Team Grandy, none of us had ever played them before and we knew it was going to be a tough game. We got off to a great start but seemed to falter in the middle of the game, a strong finish left us short by a point. Saturday we had 2 games, first Team Johnson and 2nd Team Brandwood, Erin and Brooke played both these teams last season so we knew if we played well we would have a good chance in both games. At the end of the day with two good wins on Saturday we found ourselves in 2nd place in our pool and advancing to the quarter-finals Sunday morning.

Ironically, Sunday we had to play Team Lindsay, which is the same Team we played in the quarters at this event last season. We were determined to give her a better game this year. Both teams played a great game with some truely amazing shots and shot calling. Down by one playing 8 we needed a steal, we got some gaurds out front, but Team Lindsey beat us into the house with their 1st skip rock, this left us with a very difficult draw to corner freeze their rock and get a piece of the button at the same time. Erin had great draw weight all weekend, Brooke and Robyn judged sweeping perfectly and Christina did a great job calling line to leave us sitting shot. Team Lindsay still had a chance to try get it out but when they didn't it was extra end time. Again we got some good gaurds out front, but our last rock needed to curl another few inches to get shot. We shook and wished Team Lindsay good luck in their next game.

Although, we were disappointed with our 2 loses, they came against two really great teams and gave us confidence that we can play with the best teams on the OJCT circuit, oh and getting more prize money softened the blow a bit too.

Next up is a practice this weekend at York Curling Club and then off to the London Junior Cash Spiel where our compitition is very tough. We will keep everyone posted with the results.

Peterborough Final Update

Our last round robin game was against Team Thurston, it was very back and forth both teams made some great shots but there was also some struggles with the ice. We got behind early however hung in there and managed to force an extra end where we had hammer. Fairly clean end and Erin drew for the win, which gave us first place in our pool.

We had an early morning game against Team Balkwill, we never really got anything going and got behind early. We made some good shots but ended up shaking after 6 ends.

All in all we were pleased with the weekend, our first event as a team and we took home enough cash to cover our entry fee and put some extra in the team fund. We also got 6 OJCT points towards our ranking.

Our next event is the Brampton Junior Cashspiel, but our next big game is tomorrow night in Port Perry, where we get to play Christina's dad's team in our weekly fall league game.

Peterborough OJCT Event - Game 2

The team had an early morning start, with an 8AM game against a familiar oppenent, Team Howard from the Coldwater Curling Club. We jumped out to an early lead with two in the first, but gave up two in the second. With a nice takeout an roll away we managed to blank the 3rd to retain hammer in four. This was a great end, a ton of rocks in play and with skips last rocks we were sitting 3 with two of them buried behind a wall of gaurds. Holly's last rock took out our 3rd shot rock so we had a draw to the eight foot to grab three. With our 5 - 2 lead we tried to keep it clean in 6 and were mostly successful. Erin made a nice gaurd with her last leaving Holly a difficult angle tap to score one, she throw great weight but it never curled and we stole two. Headed to 6 with a 7 - 2 lead it was all about keeping it clean. Brooke throw two great rocks into the 4 foot while they put up gaurds. Robyn did a nice job of keeping the front open with her two and Christina made 2 nice hits, With Erin's last we were sitting two behind a lone gaurd and needed to draw top of the four foot to leave them a tough hit and stick for 1, when there shooter rolled out and another steal of two we shook.

We got the results from the shootout, our total of 96 inches place us first in our pool and 2nd overall for the Ladies Event, this won us $75, but more importantly the tiebreaker advantage in our pool.

Peterborough OJCT event - First game

Well our season has started, played our first game this afternoon against Team Haymes. We got off to a tough start when Erin's draw came up a bit short and we gave up a steal of two in the first. We played a great 2nd end but wrecked on a gaurd with last rock to give up another point. Got on the board in 3 with a draw for a point. After giving up two more in 4 we found ourselves in a 5-1 hole. We had a great opportunity to get three in the fifth but did get eonugh curl with our last rock and had to settle for our one. We kept up our agressive play in 6 and managed a steal of two to get us back within a point. Haymes tried to blank seven but her last shot stuck around and that left us 2 down playing eight with hammer. We went all out in eight to get our two, bunch of great gaurds and come arounds from Brooke and Robyn and Christina made a good draw to have us sit 2. Erin needed a hit and stick with her last to score our two and force an extra which she made. Lots of good gaurds in the extra but Haymes made some good peels, with Erin's last we were trying to freeze to a rock in the eight foot but it slide a foot or so too far.

Next was our tiebreaker shootout, all four team members threw great rocks all biting the four foot. Shootout scores will be used to break any three way ties and the top three shootout scores win cash.

The team will be spending some bonding time at the hotel before our early morning (8AM) game against Team Howard. Later tomorrow we will be playing Team Thurston to finish up the round robin portion of the spiel.

Hi, its Erin, Christina, Robyn and Brooke.

We are a Junior Girls Curling team that will be competing on the Ontario Junior Curling Tour (OJCT). This is the 3rd season Erin and Brooke have curled together and are joined by new team mates Christina and Robyn for the 2010/11 season. Linda Green is back as coach. To get some early season practice we are currently playing in the Port Perry Open Fall League against experienced Mens and Womens teams. The objective of the Port Perry League is to get some early season games in before the OJCT season starts and allow the team sometime to get to know each other.

We plan to play 5 events (Peterborough, Brampton, London, Kitcher/Waterloo and TCA's) on the OJCT schedule, plus compete in Junior Girls playdowns this season
